So my whole goal of this trip was to be somewhere warm and so in Taiwan I headed south. I loved it down there and maybe because I met some really nice people and had a great hostel to stay in, but it was just nice. People in Taiwan are so nice and there is just so much to do. Here are my pictures from Kaohsiung. I mostly picked this place because it was as far south as the High Speed Rail went.
So this is a video from the Taipei 101 but the last post wouldn't let me put this so here it is. This is my elevator ride down from the top. This is the fastest elevator in the world, and a fancy one at that!
Here I am on the train to the south! Very tired cause it was a rough night at the hostel!
After checking into the hostel and all I leave right away for a place called Central Park. From here you can walk to the Love River. Very nice area. when you get off the subway this is the exit you see.
Neat building. I think it was apartments!
Made it to the Love River.
And there is a pier.
I took a short boat ride and we mostly went though a shipping yard. I liked this picture because of the neat lighting.
Huge buildings stick out.
This church looked really pretty with the lights.
Scooters everywhere. Probably 80% (if not 90%) of the people get around by scooter.
Cute puppies on a rock in a park like area. They were very friendly.
You can rent a bike for about 10 cents a half hour.
This was another cool walk way that light up.
The next day I went all the way south to Kenting and went to the beach. I met some really nice people at the hostel so four of use went down for the day. It felt so good to be in a swim suit and on a beach!
Cathy, Franklin and Debbie! Cathy is living in Kaohsiung looking for a teaching job and Franklin and Debbie live just north of me in Korea!
Neat pic!
This little girl was just so cute playing in the sand.
So we went to 7 Eleven for lunch and for the new year the guy let me pick a red envelope and I won tissue, a free coffee and this tin thing with nothing in it. I gave it to a little girl on the beach because I had no use for it!
Time to go!
A whole small bar in a small truck. The Reggae Bar!
On my last moring in Kaohsiung I took a very long walk but I saw some neat things!
Huge area with flowers everywhere.
A street name.
Very pretty place.
I had to go over the train station. I got lost for a little but finally found this overpass.
Street view.
Sad that I am leaving the warm, sunny south of Taiwan!
As I am taking in my last sun this really cute dog is running in this circle area and chasing all the pigeons. The dog would run through the group of birds and then take a small break waiting for the birds to come back and would chase them again. It was very entertaining!
Cathy who was living at the hostel until she finds a job rented a scooter and she took me around a bit and then she let me drive. Those things are so much fun!!
The HSR (High Speed Rail) back to Taipei!
I had a great short trip to Taiwan. I met some new friends and got to see the sun for a few days. I didn't see my own breath the whole time. I really want to go back some day because it was so great. If anyone goes, you need to go to Kaohsiung and stay at the International Friendship House. Run by a Canadian and like $10 a night.
